Colitis |
Colitis is a chronic condition that can cause inflammation of the larger bowels, colon and rectum. Ulcerative colitis is common and serious too and is often confused with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and Crohn's disease. It may cause inflammation in the eyes, skin and joints. Symptoms include blood and mucus in the stools, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Colitis causes a poor absorption of water and minerals often leading to nutritional deficiencies which cause general ill health, loss of appetite, weight loss, dehydration, anemia and fatigue. Diarrhoea from inflammation of the colon can have many other causes, including a bacterial or parasitic infection.

There are cycles of attack in colitis with fever and fatigue and in most cases inflammation flares up and then recedes. Symptoms of colitis may include abdominal pain, feeling of urgency, inability to have bowel movement despite urge, abdominal cramps and even rectal bleeding. Symptoms may include joint pain, eye inflammation, skin rashes, lesions and mouth ulcers.
There is no known cure for ulcerative colitis. Alternative therapies are popular among people with ulcerative colitis, however, they should complement, not replace, conventional care. Look for natural remedies for colitis. All bowel problems are totally healable despite contrary opinions!
In fact, every bowel disease symptom is a sign that the body is attempting to heal itself. To completely heal and stay well, the individual’s unnatural, toxic and enervating diet and other lifestyle factors must be replaced with a biologically-correct, natural dietary health recovery program.
- Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil capsules, may reduce inflammation in people with ulcerative colitis.
- Aloe vera gel has been found in studies to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
- Other natural remedies include exercise, calendula, flaxseed, marshmallow, slippery elm, fenugreek, devils claw and ginkgo biloba.
